  • 13th July 2021 – Emperor Dragonfly

Below is a photo Jimmy Doyle grabbed on his phone at lunch time in the wetland. . We think it is an emperor dragonfly, they apparently like newly established wetlands. We had spotted one a couple of weeks ago but this is the 1st picture we managed.

“The Emperor Dragonfly (Anax imperator) is the biggest dragonfly to be found in Ireland. It is between 7 and 8cm (3-3.5 inches) long. The Emperor Dragonfly was first recorded in Ireland as recently as 2000, an impressive insect, which gives a master class in aerobatics!” …

  • Tues 15th June 2021 – Biodiversity Workshops

Micheál did a wonderful job on his first biodiversity session with the youngest Gaelscoil classes today.  It was fun and informative for the adults and children alike.  It was obvious how much time and effort he put into the preparation.  Attached are a selection of images which give some of the flavour of the day. (There will be another session tomorrow)

  • Friday 28th May 2021 – Restoring Log Piles

A group of us met today at 2:30 pm to move the logs back to their original positions and restore the log piles, which will naturally rot providing a habitat for beetles, etc.

Well done to all involved and a special thanks to the group of young people who also helped us.

Interesting to see some dragonfly casings

And one small one was spotted flying over one of the lakes 🙂

    The place looked great afterwards.

  • Sun 18th April 2021

Had a lovely walk through the wetlands. While the dumped garden waste is unsightly, unecessary and promotes weed growth it has also perhaps helps some wild flowers.

  • Sun April 11th 2021

Had a nice walk through the town park and wetlands in the sunshine and a lady with two children who allowed me to take a photo and asked if we are in Instagram. Which is a great idea which I really must establish and promote. Here are a few snaps 🙂
